The Planetary Society, once again is having names put onto a special silica glass DVD to send to Mars with the next Mars probe named Phoenix. They say that the glass DVD will last thousands of years and it carries a message to future visitors of the red planet.

Until January 5th, you can get a special holiday version of the participation certificate. The certificate is printed in color on nice paper and would make a cool gift for scifi and space exploration fans.

The deadline for getting your name or names of loved ones on the DVD is February 1, 2007, so hurry if you want to be part of space history.

Allen is a computer technician with experience spanning MS-DOS to present. Having been a Star Trek fan all of his life has given him a love for technology. Tech toys and gadgets are also a weakness of his. Allen also loves video games, especially the classics and is a big Nintendo portable gaming fanboy and has his DS with him everyday so that he can get his gaming fix daily. He can also be considered a couch potato as he is addicted to watching TV, especially the Sci Fi Channel with its B-movies.

This reminds me of the ‘Star Registry’ commercials that come up on radio from time to time. For $54 they’ll name a star after you and send you a pretty certificate. Heck, send me $50 and I’LL name a star after you and send you a trophy !

Ha, yeah…but this one is free. ;-)

Oh, I forgot to mention the free part.

There are some people I would like to actually send to Mars. Was this an option? If not it should be.
