After all of the excitement caused by my December 23rd post, it was almost anti-climatic to receive the Spectec SDG-810 SDIO GPS Module today.

Almost! 😉

Included in the box are the driver disk, the module and a nifty plastic case.

The module comes with a 128MB microSD.

And I think that it looks pretty odd hanging out of my Treo 700wx. 😉

When the GPS module is installed and the PDA is turned on, an LED indicates that it is operational.

Nope, it doesn’t look any smaller on the HTC Universal. It’s okay though…an all-in-one GPS device may be worth the worry of a 2″ protrusion.

Or is it?

I’m sending this one to Chris; he can tell us more once he’s had a chance to put it through its paces. 🙂

Still no word on pricing, though…

  1. That would make any PDA with an SD slot a great GPS system!! Sticks out a bit, but GPS + microSD in one SD card is a great idea.

Seems like a nice idea. Only one device to carry, which reduces the number of power adapters and hassle. Would be interested to see the difference in battery drain on the PDA comparing this with the drain by using bluetooth to communicate with a seperate GPS.

But it does look too flimsy. Perhaps this is one you can test to destruction to see how good/bad it really is?!?

  3. ‘mon BABY! Come to papa! I can’t wait to get my hands on this to see how well it performs against my SX66 and Arkon GPS cradle, iPAQ 6515 and 6945 and Axion 632 GPS Receiver.

T39… That’s a very good question regarding battery drain. I’ll make certain I look into that when it gets here.

  4. Any word on which PDA models are compatible with this baby?

  5. as I understand it, WM5 devices only at this time; and they (obviously) must have an SD slot

  6. Right Chris. Allen, they will have drivers available for Palm and Smartphone soon – I think that is what’s holding up the wide release. But I was told it would work with WM5 for sure. 🙂
