Chris Davies of SlashGear fame has gone through a recent move which left him without reliable internet service for an excruciating two weeks, and believe me – I had to hear all about it from him, too! Gear Diary Chris Takes the HSDPA Enabled Samsung Z560 for a Spin...and Is Left Spinning photo

So to back up for a moment…about the same time he received the Samsung Z560 review unit from T-Mobile UK, he also received a shiny new Palm 750v. Being more impressed with the 750v’s form factor, he set the Samsung to the side; being without high-speed internet made him reconsider the HSDPA enabled Z560. Hey, a man’s gotta have his priorities!

According to Chris:

First impressions of the Z560 hadn’t been great; its black plastic body, although lightweight and attractive enough in design, felt cheap in comparison to the dense, matte casing of the Treo, and while the inside was to some extent saved by virtue of a tactile, fat-finger friendly keypad the screen, bright as it is, failed to make the most of the size and QVGA resolution with Samsung’s standard UI.

He was all set to “snap a few photos, pack it back into its box and ship it away, with it ending up the subject of a mediocre review,” when he remembered that the Samsung’s box included a tethering option for high-speed internet access…!!!

I’ll leave you to discover how the experience went for him, but his last sentence is rather priceless: “Many thanks to T-Mobile for loaning me the Z560 and saving me from ADSL-less hell.” Gear Diary Chris Takes the HSDPA Enabled Samsung Z560 for a Spin...and Is Left Spinning photo

I have had a fascination with all types of gadgets and gizmos since I was a child, beginning with the toy robot that my grandmother gave my brother - which I promptly "relieved him of" in 1973. I have long been captivated by devices that did anything interesting or served a unique purpose - however silly. I can't tell you how everything works – but I am known world-wide for using a product until I have a full understanding of what it does, what its limitations are, and if it excels in any given area...or not.
