When I bought my MacBook Pro last year, I was surprised at how wonderful the computer truly was. One of the biggest problems that I ran into with it, though was protection. Please click the review link above (written by me and one of my best mates from Down Under, Mitchell Oke), and scroll down to the unboxing pictures. You’ll notice that the computer, for all its high-end price, doesn’t come with ANY kind of protection at all. While most notebook computers don’t, the high price point of the MacBook Pro really begs the need for some kind of case, skin or other covering.  Enter the 2fit from Sonnet…

When Judie approached me to do the review for this Mac notebook accessory I was really excited. First of all, it was my first MBP accessory. Secondly, having my brand new baby traveling around the world nearly nekked was really bothering me. I saved for this notebook for over a year. The last thing that I needed to have happen to it was to have it damaged by some accidental dent, nick or scratch.

Fit and Function
As you can see from the pictures below, the 2fit is a form fitting glove over your MBP.

The 2fit fits over the computer, and the only thing showing is the front edge of the machine.

The MacBook Pro simply slides in the microfiber made 2fit. Sonnet also includes a separate microfiber cloth, meant to be used as a keyboard cover and screen cleaner. The cloth simply fits on top of the keyboard. Its intended to protect the screen from getting scuffed by the keyboard, transferring an outline of your keyboard to the screen.

While this added extra is great, I have found that its very easy to forget the cloth and leave the keyboard unprotected. The cloth is easy to lose, which is unfortunate; as the notebook is too expensive to have something mar the screen. I’d like to see some kind of all-in-one solution that included cut-outs for the lid latch. It would make long term use of the 2fit a heck of a lot easier; but that’s just me…

Conclusion:
I really like the 2fit. It provides some much needed protection to your MacBook Pro while it sits inside the backpack notebook case that I bought for it. I’ve come to rely on it so much, in fact, that I don’t take my MBP anywhere without it. If you have a MacBook or a MacBook Pro, then this is probably the best $30 bucks you’re every going to spend on an accessory.

The 2fit is available from Sonnet’s online store.
MSRP: $29.95

What I Like:

  • Decent protection
  • Reasonable Price
  • Included Microfiber cloth/keyboard cover

What Needs Improvement:

  • Not much
  • Two piece design (keyboard cover vs. the actual 2fit) can be awkward.

  1. I have been very fortunate with my MBP with regards to scratches. It gets a LOT of use, and taken with my to uni every day, and so far only the battery has scratches on it. But this is a great idea to make sure it stays that way!
