Ok i know this is a little late, but i was reading your review and i have one of these and really love it too, with the exception of trying to format video to use on it, i use baddaboom to do most of my formating because of its cuda code works much faster than any others i have used. but i can not seem to find a setting that the view will use.

But mainly what i wanted to say was you left out my most favorite hidden feature, in fact it boggles my mind why this feature is not mentioned in the user manual nor is the cabling supplied with it. I had to purchase another cable from overstock for $9.00, but it was well worth it.

What is this feature you maybe wondering... the ability to plug your View into a composite input on a video device and output your video to a TV, Recording device or what have you! This feature Is awesome, the video looks great on even a large screen. I just can not figure out why San-disk chose to hide this feature, i was only able to figure it out by finding the setting for tv you could chose Pal or NTSC. then i searched the web for info and found a kid who had a oscilloscope and had pined out the connection on the bottom of the view, and found it had video out puts. He supplied a pin-out diagram and i was just about to build a cable but instead i did a search and found overstock.com carried one with stereo out rca's and a composite video out rca, well i ordered it and wow it added a whole new dimension to the sansa view and a mystery as to why this feature is not mentioned or supported by sansa, it is like they put it in then decided it was a mistake and tried to cover it by just not talking about it.

well if you or anyone else knows why they do not mention it or supply a cable for it please email me and let me know.

Hey, evil resident. Thanks for your comment. And no problem, I won't get you started on my title. Which, by the sound of it, I take it you did not like. Well, what can I say. You can't please all of the people all of the time...and I thought it was clever at the time. :)

As to your question of how did it sound. You are absolutely right. I talked around it, but I really did not come right out and say Boy does the Sansa View sound fantastic. I could have done that, but I chose not to. Boy, I bet you are thinking that I am a complete idiot right now. Fair enough.

But the reason I did that was pretty simple. For the most part, media players in a comparable price range use a lot of the same parts. Plus, how a media player "sounds" is dependent upon a large number of variables, including (but not limited to) the quality of your recorded music, the format of your recorded music, the headphones you are using, and more. Additionally, when I listen to music, I probably hear things differently from you. So, saying something completely subjective like, "this one sounds great" would actually require me to say, "this one sounded great when playing such and such song recorded in WMA format while using the these headphones in the following environment, while I paid particular attention to the guitar and lyrics, but not so much the bass." It just doesn't make a lot of sense. So, here is what I will say. If you like awesome music, then your music will sound awsome on the Sansa View.

To me, it is much more important to evaluate these devices based upon objective criteria. How easy/hard is it to use. How much does it hold. How well does it work. Then, if you like what you read here, you can hop in the car and head over to your local Best Buy and take a listen for yourself. In the end, that is really the only way you will even know whether it sounds good or not.

Thanks for reading.

sorry, i'm not usually this critical... but i had to register just to reply to this review...

what is the most important thing in a review of an audio device? the MOST important? ...how does it sound? how well does it reproduce music?

sure your deconstructive analysis of the player is great, i know all about the device as if i were holding it right now...but i'm buying this for to LISTEN to music, not play with the features, now how crisp the screen looks - which is all great stuff to know, but the word 'crisp' is 100% more of a description than you gave for the sound quality of the MUSIC player...

and please, don't get me started on your title for this reviw...

again, sorry...but c'mon!

I'm having problems loading video onto my sansa view. I'm using the converter I got from sansa but it doesn't seem to be working. I can play the audio but not video. I'm using Vista, and seeing how that screws up everything it tries to do, I'm wondering if it isn't my system.

Is there a trick to using the converter, or something else I can do to get videos onto my View? (Oh, the converter will only work if my player is connected to the computer. I can't convert video files if it isn't) Thanks!!
