I’ve always been a big stickler for keeping my gadgets protected. I’m pretty proud of my iPods being fingerprint free for over a year now in its protective casings by DLO and OtterBox.

With the investment in laptops, it’s a wonder why people don’t use a lapcase case, especially with all of the choices available these days.

Case-Mate has come out with a very stylish and smart form-fit leather wrap designed for a 13-inch MacBook that protects the laptop when it is out of the laptop bag.

When traveling through an airport, the screening process includes removing the laptop out of the bag. See this lovely dent on my Dell lid?

In the midst of my Dell laptop sitting in a tray, a TSA agent heaved a bunch of trays toppling over a big stack with one bouncing off my lid. Needless to say, I was semi-freaked out, but rather than raising a fuss (and being strip searched at my home town airport), I let the goofball incident pass when the laptop functioned perfectly.

The Suit by Case-mate is a form-fit leather wrap. Inside is an impact resistant plastic shell that tightly snugs the MacBook without any wiggle room. The outside is wrapped in resilient Italian Pebblestone leather.

There are two translucent ¼” bands that hold the laptop lid in place.

They are located above and below the LCD screen.

The inside of the case is lined with cloth that hides all of the stitching and adding additional scratch proofing on the MacBook exterior while sitting in the Case-Mate Suit. On the outside, the Apple logo is neatly framed in the window.

One of the initial concerns I had was additional heat build up. After installing a widget to measure heat, there was no cause for concern. The case doesn’t block any of the vents.

All of the external ports are easily accessible as shown below:

The Suit does add a little bulk, but not much weight around the MacBook. For the protection it affords, I absolutely love the Suit!

Considering that the matte black finish on the MacBook is a finger grease magnet, the Pebblestone leather is easy to clean and feels great to the touch. I get a lot of compliments on the case.

The Suit is available in 8 styles including various color combinations such as red with a black accent, white with a black accent, white, and black. Each Suit can be personalized as well.

By the way, there is a 12 ¼” x 8 ¾” x 1” corrugated box with the Apple logo inside if you’re into collecting Apple packaging as I am.

The list price of $149.99 may be a turn off, but considering the security and protection the Suit offers, I’m figuring 7% to 10% of the cost of the MacBook is worth the protection.

MSRP: $149.99 for the 13” MacBook Suits

Suits are available for the 15” and 17” MacBook at $159.99 and $169.99 each in various colors.

What I Like: The first line of defense against accidental dings (why didn’t anyone think of this before?), fit and finish, quality of the leather’s feel to the touch.

What Needs Improvement: None.
