You might recall that I recently posted about LapWorks’ new line of painted Futuras? Well Bill, their PR guy, outed me in the comments for admiring the Largely Leopard version. I recently received the one that he took upon himself to send me my friend…not that I am complaining, mind you. Gear Diary The LapWorks Laptop Desk Futura...In Leopard! photo

I thought it would be fun to post pictures and initial impressions, to show you all first-hand what one of these painted Futuras looks like. As you can see, the leopard print is fun but not obnoxious…

You can get the Futura with black or translucent rubber pads, and you can also choose either a semi-gloss or matte finish; mine my friend’s has the semi-gloss finish. The patterns are applied by a specialized UV ink-jet printer which lays a heavy coat of industrial-grade ink which hardens when exposed to UV light.

The Futura measures approximately 11″ wide x 11″ tall x 0.5″ thick when closed; when opened it measures approximately 21″ wide x 11″ tall.

The Futura can be used as a lap desk, but it will also serve as a desktop stand for ergonomic and comfortable laptop keying. This swinging leg is what’s used to prop the two ends from each other when it is folded into a stand…

Slots on the opposite side allow the Futura to be adjusted to three different heights, yet the stand will still fold flat enough to fit in almost any laptop bag.

Of course, most people probably enjoy using their Futura just as Sarah’s friend Emily shows it – on their laps, protecting them from the heat laptops dispel; I know that this is how I’ll be using mine…I mean…wait. Yeah. Gear Diary The LapWorks Laptop Desk Futura...In Leopard! photo

What I Like: Fun patterns that make a functional product really stand out; can be used as a laptop stand or a lap desk; folds flat so it can be carried in a laptop bag

I have had a fascination with all types of gadgets and gizmos since I was a child, beginning with the toy robot that my grandmother gave my brother - which I promptly "relieved him of" in 1973. I have long been captivated by devices that did anything interesting or served a unique purpose - however silly. I can't tell you how everything works – but I am known world-wide for using a product until I have a full understanding of what it does, what its limitations are, and if it excels in any given area...or not.
