There isn’t an easier way to get your iPod’s sound out to a car stereo than using an FM transmitter. No wires, no cassette adapters, just plug it in, tune your radio to the right station and out comes your music.
Problem is at lot of the time they are rubbish. I have tried several over the years and none of them could produce a clear signal at any time, it was constantly crackly and awful. A few days ago when I received the USB Fever FM Transmitter I was expecting more of the same, but I was pleasantly surprised.
There isn’t a lot to say about the unit, it connects to the dock connector on your iPod or iPhone, and you set the frequency you want to transmit on using the buttons on the front. This is good since it means it should work on any iPod model or firmware since it isn’t dependant on it.
The unit feels cheap, but it IS cheap. FM Transmitters can be fairly pricey, so at $24.99 it’s a pretty good deal. Even better when you consider IT WORKS!
It tested the trasmitter with a radio inside the house, as well as in my dad’s car (I don’t have radio at the moment 😛 ) and in both situations sound was very clear, and as close to connecting with wires that I have heard thus far. If you crank up the volume you will hear a very slight distortion accompanying heavy base, but under normal listening conditions quality is excellent.

I realize this isn’t the correct place, I’m not commenting on the gadget, but I couldn’t find a general complaint link 😉 I’d like to register my dislike of the little floaty flash junk at the bottom of the page. The banners are fine, I know you have to pay for the page, but that think is real annoying. If you take a poll about that thing, put me down for a no.
