WordsWorth for the iPhone and iPod Touch is like a training camp for Scrabble fans. The object of the game is simple. Use the touch surface of your iPhone or Touch and drag from letter to letter to spell complete words (minimum word length can be varied from 3 to 5 letters to increase game difficulty). The object is to spell the longest word using high scoring letters and gather the most points.
This year for Christmas Santa I gave the kids iPod Touches. This has proven to be a smart move as they’ve found all sorts of great apps to use during long car trips and random down time around the house.

This month we’ve started playing games at night after dinner. The games are usually board games (Guess Who is currently a big favorite). Last night we spent about 45 quiet minutes playing a new iPhone/Touch game called WordsWorth.

The object of this game is simple. Link letters together to form words. Some of the letters are worth more points than others. Logically those letters are also harder to form words with.

There are quite a few options you can set. To make the game harder you can increase the minimum word size from 3 to either 4 or 5 letters.

Words that you enter are validated against a variety of official Scrabble dictionaries (TWL, SOWPODS, ENABLE). Since the kids and I never have tricky words (unless we’re taking wild guesses) there wasn’t much observable difference between dictionaries while we were playing.

High scores are automatically saved (the kids loved filling in their names each time they achieved a higher score than the previous game).

The fun of this game is that you can play it at many different levels (for both kids and adults) depending upon the minimum words size you’ve established in the settings. The program is available for only $1.99 in the APP Store and there’s a free Lite version that limits you to 3 levels and will allow you to test out the game without having to purchase this full version.

What I liked:
Great game for kids and adults
Teaches words while playing a game
Built-in Scrabble word dictionaries
User definable difficulty levels

What Could Be Improved:
After the first three seconds you’ll turn the repetitions background “music” off
