I was shopping today for back to school supplies for my daughters at Target.

In true gadget head fashion I took a stroll down the electronics forum.

What did I spy? One of Dan’s favorite gadgets, the Livescribe Smartpulse Pen.

It’s gone viral.

I have always had a passion for gear and gadgets. It all started for me with the release of the very first Palm Pilot. I've always had an interest in handheld electronics. From handheld PDAs, to cell phones, Mp3 players, watches and other products, I'm the first person my friends, family and colleagues call when they need advice on tech. I have roots in the online tech. forum community. I served as the Administrator to Howard Forums.com and as a Moderator at both Treo Central.com and Blackberry Forums.net. Under the screen name “lgreenberg” I've amassed 50,000+ postings. I also manage my own YouTube channel under the user name larrygreenberg. I'm always eager to help.

I love my Pulse pen, I just wish the software did a bit more. Specifically, I wish I could import my notes into Microsoft OneNote as handwriting. I can bring them in now as a PDF, but it’s not as good.

I’d also love to see integration with Outlook; for example, letting me hand write an email or a new contact or appointment and then automatically importing it (and sending the email) when I connect the pen to my PC.

I believe Target was the launch partner for the Livescribe Pulse. Target has had them for about a year now.

I’d love to get one, but I know I won’t use it that much. I take notes on a Moleskine reporter’s notepad with a fountain pen. Livescribe now has paper pads similar to the Moleskine, but I’d have a tough time giving up the fountain pen.

The Moleskine-style notepad is pretty nice. I use one along with two of the larger leather-covered notebooks. The pad is small enough to fit in my pocket, though not by much, but I’m always hesitant to put the pen in my pocket. It’s a bit large (although if you’re used to a fountain pen, it’s probably not much bigger), but mostly I’m terrified that I’ll break it.

Nice to know, first time my local Target had them in stock.
