iFrogz has quickly become one of the leaders in cutting edge accessories for Apple product, Mp3 players and other electronics devices.

Their Ear Pollution line of headphones is one of the most popular headphone available on the market.

iFrogz recently released a new item in the Ear Pollution line, the iFrogz Timbre.

Available with or without an inline microphone the noise isolating ear buds are made with natural wood.

I was recently sent a pair by iFrogz to review.  Do the Tibre’s perform as good as they look?

Read on to find out.

The iFrogz Timbre are made with an all natural wood chamber.  Available in either a dark or light colored wood.

The wood chamber feels great in the hand, smooth and natural and wears equally as comfortable in the ear.

The higher priced $49.95 includes an inline microphone which allows you to use your Blackberry or iPhone to make telephone calls with the headset.

There is a $39.95 model as well which doesn’t have the mic.

The microphone is clickable which allows you to answer calls.

The headphones use a standard 3.5 mm headset jack.

To ensure a proper and comfortable fit iFrogz includes three different ear fit pieces.

These not only allow you to achieve a comfortable fit but also work to make sure you’re getting the most out of the Timbre’s ability to block outside noises.

The specs on the headphones are as follows:

  • Driver unit: 10 mm
  • Impedance: 16 ohms
  • Sensitivity: 103 dB
  • Frequency Response: 20 Hz to 20Khz
  • Cord Length: 1.1 m
  • Plug: 3.5 mm

So how did the headphones perform?

Dan helped me test them via a variety of outlets.  We also compared them to both Apple’s In-Ear headphones as well as the more expensive VModa earbuds.

For music, listening to iTunes via my Mac Book Pro or my iPod and iPhone the headphones performed superbly.  Sound quality is excellent and the earbuds do an excellent job at blocking out ambient sound.  As good as any of the other headphones in this range that I’ve tried.

We also tested the headphones, and more importantly the inline microphone with both Skype on my Mac Book Pro and making phone calls on my iPhone.

For these tasks the Timbres did not seem to perform as well as the others we tried.  While they did get the job done Dan reported my voice sounded more muffled then when I spoke via the other two headsets.

Bottom line for me is these headphones are stylish looking and nicely priced.  They don’t perform as well as some of the more expensive headphones of the same type but that be should expected.

They perform great when listening to music and block many of the noises around you.

On the phone they work as advertised but do seem to result in sometimes muffled sounding call quality.

You can check out the iFrogz Timbres on the iFrogz website.

M.S.R.P. – $49.95 with microphone, $39.95 without

What I like – stylish look, comfortable, good noise isolating, great with music.

What I don’t like – voice calls sometimes sounded muffled.
