It’s been a while since I reviewed the Brickyard headphones from 2XL.  I really like  them even though their over the ear  style design can become warm on the ears. 2XL has solved the sweaty ear problem with a new style of headphones in the new 4 Corner Style of headphones.

The design of these new headphones is unique in that instead of round like traditional headphones of this style, these are square. The square shape of these headphones do not make them at all uncomfortable.

Just like the Brickyard headphones, these are available in many different colors.  I was sent 2 sets.  One matches the color of my Snake Eye color schemed Brickyards and the other is the Wrecking Ball or neon green color scheme.  I gave these ones to my wife.  The other color schemes available are NuevoSonida (Mexican flag colors), Grills – Black (black and gold), Grills – Pink, Rasta (Rastafarian Color s) and Bunny (Purple).

The specs of the headphones are:

  • Driver Diameter: 30mm
  • Plug Type: 3.5mm, Gold plated
  • Max. input power: 100mW
  • Impedance: 32ohms
  • Frequency range: 20-20,000Hz
  • Magnet Type: NdFeB
  • Cable Length: 1.2M

I liked the sound that came from these headphones  but due to the more open design I found I had to have the volume at a higher level than with the Brickyard design.

I am also becoming a big fan of in-ear style headphone mainly because there’s no headband to potentially be broken when floating in your bag.  These headphones proved very durable  and  survived many a bus trip to work since I got them.

The 4 Corners headphones are also a decent deal at $19.99 MSRP.  According to the 2XL website, Best Buy should be where you can go to get them , but they are not currently listed on the Best Buy website.

2XL let me keep the 2 pair that they sent out.

What I liked: Nice and light.  Cool colors.  Decent sound.

What needs improvement: The corners of the headphone pads have already started to wear and that is with light use.  I think they need to go back to a round headphone shape.
