Gear Diary Ambient Devices Announces Cirrus 7 Day Weather Forecaster and Centerfield Baseball ScoreCaster photo

Once again, I am feeling the lack of love for those of us who live in rural America. There are two new Ambient Devices freshly introduced, but unless you live in one of the 152 US locations that support it, there will be “no Ambient for you!!

If you do live within 30 miles of a supported location, you’ll get to enjoy Ambient’s new Cirrus 7 Day Forecaster via Accuweather.com and the Centerfield Baseball ScoreCaster via the free InfoCast Wireless Network; neither device requires a PC or Internet connection.

Cirrus ($129.99) and Centerfield ($99.00) are available now at Best Buy, but you should check to make sure that your city is on the list before springing.

Ambient Devices Announces Two Color Changing Devices,
Cirrus 7-Day Weather Forecaster and Centerfield Baseball ScoreCaster, Available at Best Buy

Innovative Color Changing Dial Provides Up-to-Date Information,
At a Glance

Cambridge, Massachusetts – (October 27, 2009)
– Adding to their line of products that provide “information at a glance,” Ambient Devices today unveiled the new Cirrus 7 Day Forecaster and Centerfield Baseball ScoreCaster.  Designed to provide easy access to frequently checked information, Cirrus and Centerfield deliver up-to-date information on a unique, large and easy-to-read display. Just in time for the holidays, Cirrus 7-Day Forecaster and Centerfield Baseball ScoreCaster are available at Best Buy.

Cirrus provides weather updates from AccuWeather.com for over 150 U.S. locations.  Cirrus receives data from the free Ambient InfoCast™ Wireless network.  No PC, Internet, or WIFI connections are required. Cirrus delivers up to date high and low temperatures, wind speed and direction, precipitation, UV index, and even pollen & air quality updates.

As the temperature changes so does Cirrus. “With the color-changing dial feature Cirrus gives you the temperature instantly, even from across the room. As the temperature varies, Cirrus changes its dial color to reflect the weather outside,” said Andrew Boch, VP, Ambient Brand.  “Ambient provides easy accessible information at a glance, with no setup in a clean, crisp, and stylish device.  You’ll never wait to the top of the hour for a weather report again.”

Cirrus features:
•    Large, easy-to-read icons show the AccuWeather.com forecast, including high/low temperature, current temperature, and trend.
•    Provides precipitation, wind speed & direction, UV index, pollen and air quality alerts.
•    Color changing dial feature provides current temperature at a glance, even across the room.
•    Favorites button for instant access to up to 5 locations, dimmable back lit screen and adjustable kickstand for easy viewing.

Centerfield automatically receives scores, schedules, and standings for every major league baseball team, from spring training to the fall classic. Centerfield works right out of the box without any setup.  Simply plug it in (an AC adaptor is included) and receive updates in minutes.

The unique color-changing dial corresponds with your team’s game status. “Centerfield is the diehard baseball fan’s best friend. Get all the info you need at a glance, while at work or at home” says Boch. “From Spring Training to the World Series, Centerfield always knows the score and never misses an inning, all season long.”

Centerfield features:
•    Automatically receive scores, schedules, and standings for every team and every game, from spring training to the Fall Classic.
•    Dial color glows green when your team is winning, red when they are behind, and yellow if it’s a tie ball game.
•    Displays starting pitchers, home/away status.
•    Great way to keep up with afternoon games at work, and to track multiple games in progress without waiting for radio or TV updates

Cirrus ($149.99 $129.99) and Centerfield ($129.99 $99.00) are available now at Best Buy.

I have had a fascination with all types of gadgets and gizmos since I was a child, beginning with the toy robot that my grandmother gave my brother - which I promptly "relieved him of" in 1973. I have long been captivated by devices that did anything interesting or served a unique purpose - however silly. I can't tell you how everything works – but I am known world-wide for using a product until I have a full understanding of what it does, what its limitations are, and if it excels in any given area...or not.
