Through my search of Blue Plate applications I have learned two things.  First, there are some great games and apps available for $.99 or less.  Second, well executed simple design makes for a better app than one who tries to throw in the kitchen sink.  Zlider falls into this category.  The gameplay is a simple concept, but with plenty of challenge and nice graphics they present a really fun game.

Guide the little meteoroid through the galaxy and prevent him from colliding with the walls of blue and red stars.

You need a bunch of coordination skills with this game as you move the star-belts up and down with your left and right thumb, creating openings for the meteoroid to travel through. Your goal is to make it to the black hole at the end of each level

Master each level by collecting medals to increase your score and to unlock new and harder levels.

Connect and compete with your Facebook friends and see how they compare with you over time. You can see the score and stats of all your facebook friends who are playing Zlider.

Mastered all the levels? Don’t worry, we are releasing new level packs that you can purchase for a small price directly from the game.

Moyo Studios and Dogtown Studios thank you for exploring Zlider and hope you will enjoy the game as much as we did making it.

To guide the meteoroid through the star walls just slide the red walls with the left thumb and the blue walls with the right thumb.  I thought of foosball when I first began to play.  I guess the movement of the star walls is similar to moving the players on the table.  That is all there is to controls, but the game will present some interesting challenges as the meteor moves through the galaxy.

The meteor’s path is indicated with a small white line and basically will move up and down the screen.  The feeling of movement comes from oncoming stars, a moving background and the meteor animation.  As the star fields approach, slide them so the meteor avoids contact.  The first level is pretty tame.  The red and blue bars are spaced apart and there is one single meteor.

As the levels move on, so does the difficulty.  The openings of the bars greatly change as does the speed at which they approach.  Keeping the red and blue bars straight is actually more difficult than it sounds and takes some practice.  Then the meteor line splits apart and multiple meteors have to be safely moved through the galaxy.  The first time the meteor split, it actually surprised me and I did not last very long!  The added meteors are sometimes behind or ahead of each other and create a whole new problem.  Reaching the black hole at the end of the level will be relieving every time.

No game is complete without extras and bonuses.  There are bonus stars to pick up that take some fancy maneuvering and medals that must be earned for each level.  Players can also connect and compare scores with their Facebook friends adding a social networking aspect.  If the provided levels are not enough, new levels are available for $.99 with more being developed.  This is a fun and challenging game and is perfect for gaming on the go.  Get it here in the app store for FREE!

What I like: Challenging gameplay and nice graphics.

What could be improved: Nothing I could find.  Nicely developed game.
