Gear Diary A quick mention on the awesome battery life of a G1 photo

This has been my first trip to CES.  I had NO idea what to expect.  Well, to quote the Greatful Dead, “what a long strange trip its been!”

When I was packing to come, I wasn’t sure what I was going to need, especially in the gear department.  I consulted the all knowing Judie, and she gave me some helpful tips. I also tried to figure out what my own needs would be.

When I got here, I realized that I didn’t pack the one thing I was sure I was going to need, a spare battery for my T-Mobile G1.  Oops.  I was hoping I could find a way to stretch the battery life with a few tweaks, but I was sure by half way through a day, I was going to be DOA.  Boy was I wrong!

With doing blog posts, checking email, Twitter tweets, Facebook updates, calendar updates, using Google maps and even making some phone calls, I wound up being able to have the battery last for 12 hours without a charge or needing to power off.   And I didn’t have to tweak any of the battery saving settings. All hail HTC engineering and an awesome battery.  With my old Blackberry, I could have never made it that long.

Now if only I could find a way to keep me charged for 12 hours so I can make it through the rest of CES….

Awesome is usually not a word I would associate with the G1′s default battery life! ;-) Now with the extended battery I have, I can make it through the day, but it’s pretty large! :D So I may order a new regular battery soon.

It is funny – last night was the first time in 3 days I charged my Droid, doing normal amounts of stuff each day … and normally I charge only every other day. Amazing!

FYI – Your G1 has the Seidio Innocell 1400mAh Slim Extended battery in it, not the stock G1 battery (1150mAh). That’s the same as the battery in the myTouch 3G. That’s still great battery life, though!
