One of the things I like to do when attending shows like CES is collect flash memory press kit thumbdrives to use again once I get home. In years past, it was considered a huge score if I was given a drive larger than 1GB, and this year I actually got several which were 2GB – along with a single 4GB drive, but alas … the thrill was almost gone, because at home I had a 16GB flash drive which was smaller and cuter than anything I was handed at CES.

The Active Media Wink is minimalism personified with just a touch of sass in the form of a winky emoticon on the front, and it’s available in black or pink; you can guess which one I received…

The Wink is tiny – measuring just 1.2″ long x 0.5″ wide x 0.1″ thick, and it’s available in memory denominations of 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.

The loop on the end of the flashdrive is almost a necessity – the Wink is so small it would be easy to lose! Don’t worry about dropping it or getting it covered in pocket lint however; this flash memory is waterproof and shock resistant.

Out of the box, the 16GB Wink shows as having 16.16GB available.

The Wink is available from Amazon in memory denominations of 2, 4, 8 or 16GB, and you can get yours in pink or the less girly black.

MSRP: $37.95 as tested

What I Like: Tiny size with large amounts of memory; minimalistic design with a cute winky face

What Needs Improvement: They are using Sarah Palin’s wink from the vice-presidential debates as an unfortunate marketing tool … the wink was odd when it happened, and here it seems just as out of place.

Hi Julie! Glad you got back safely. I was expecting this post to be a competition for the other USB drives! I visited a vendor a couple of years ago (2007) and as a parting gift I was given a USB drive. IT WAS 128 MEG!!! I didn’t even know they made them that small any more…

  2. Dan & I actually got a 64MB one from some vendor while we were at Digital Experience. We were like … “who does this size anymore?!” 😆

  3. Hmmmm. Wondering, since we’ve basically replaced removable disk drives with flash drives, CDs, DVDs – is there really much use for flash drives over 2 GB? (Other than in a competitive sense, of course!)

  4. I use mine to back up Money files and other documents, and then I keep them in various drawers so that I always have multiple backups. Its a little obsessive to do this on top of regular backups to an external hard drive, but I have a fear of reentering months of info should all be lost. 🙂

Using Sarah Palin wink picture made me think the drive is so small it is like getting speck in your eye.

  6. Where did you get the Continental flash card/drive thingy?
I work for Continental, which is the Automotive company, not the airline.
I’ve never seen a Continental branded flash drive before. Cool.

  7. Hey uzziah – that’s a 2GB card. Want it? Email me your address, and it’s yours. 🙂
