Gear Diary Mail Tones adds insanely long alert to your iPhone e mail photo

I’m a big fan of the iPhone application “Mail Tones.”  The app. allows you to set a custom sound and assign it to any of your contact’s e-mail addresses.  You can also choose to set custom sounds for specific domains and subjects as well.

For me the app. is super valuable.  I get e-mail all day long.  If I stopped to grab my phone every time a new message was delivered I’d probably never get anywhere.  With Mail Tones I can decide whether or not I need to grab my phone from my hip to check my mail based on the sound it makes.

This usually works well but sometimes, especially in crowded areas I miss the sound.  Mail Tones has just released an update which seeks to rectify this issue.  They’ve added a special alert sound called “Long Alarm Clock.”  You’re meant to use this alert with your most important e-mail contacts.  The ones that when you receive an e-mail from you need to be reading right away.

The key with the new alert sound is it’s long and loud.  The alert tone plays for almost 30 seconds which means chances are it won’t stop playing until you grab your phone and unlock it to go to mail.

So if you need to make absolutely sure that you don’t miss that e-mail from your boss, or perhaps you’re the go-to person on a special project, Mail Tones might keep your response time where it needs to be.

Mail Tones is available in the iTunes App Store here for $2.99.
