Austin, Texas, home to the “Keep Austin Weird” campaign, is preparing for one of the hottest gatherings around – the annual South By Southwest Film, Interactive and Music festival – March 12-21.

The breakdown is such:

Interactive: March 12-16
Film: March 12-20
Music: March 17-21

Corporate sponsors have jumped on board and this year that includes Chevrolet, who seeks to showcase the automaker’s embracing of the social media world.

As an example of that, Chevrolet will evaluate three emerging technologies at SXSW, including:
— Location-Based Social Networking: Chevrolet has partnered with Austin-based Gowalla. From their smart phones, Gowalla users can “check in” to let friends and followers know where they are at a given moment.
— Quick Response (QR) Codes: Chevrolet will use Quick Response (QR) codes to introduce attendees to the key features of vehicles including the Camaro, Volt, and Cruze. When photographed using a camera phone, the QR codes will launch a dedicated microsite with key features of the vehicle.
— Augmented Reality: Users who download the Chevrolet iReveal application, available in Beta form, will be able to unlock three-dimensional models of Chevrolet vehicles.

Some of the other activities Chevrolet will be involved in:

Chevy Recharges You at SXSW 2010
SXSW can be as exhausting as it is awesome. As a Super Sponsor of SXSW Film, Interactive, and Music, Chevrolet is excited to help conference-goers recharge themselves and their devices by day and “Catch a Chevy” at night during this year’s festival.

Chevy Volt Recharge Lounge
Located at the NW entrance to the Convention Center, the Chevy Volt Recharge Lounge will provide juice for both your body and your electronic devices. While you’re there plug in, get a professional chair massage, grab a beverage or just chill out while you get your first look at the 2011 Chevy Volt. Keep your eye out for more chargers outside of the conference rooms.

“Catch a Chevy”
March 12-16 “Catch a Chevy” from 6 p.m. – Midnight at Brush Square Park across from the Austin Convention Center at the Registrant’s Lounge (4th + Neches), Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, and the Paramount Theatre.
March 17-20, “Catch a Chevy” from 6 p.m. – 2 a.m. at Brush Square Park across from the Austin Convention Center at the Registrant’s Lounge (4th + Neches), at Mellow Johnny’s (4th+ Nueces), Antone’s (5th + Lavaca), and 7th+ Red River.
