Gear Diary Camangi Webstation Has an Update Available! photo

Looks like the folks at Camangi aren’t sitting around waiting for the army of tablets to take them down. They sent this email late last week:

Dear Customers,

Thank you for your support to Camangi WebStation.

We truly appreciate the feedback and suggestions given to us over the past few months. We have also learned a lot from yourside.
Now, we are pleased to announce that we will upgrade the software of Camangi WebStation into New version.
Major updates below are included:

1.The improvements of WiFi:More stable and fast WiFi connection function.
2.The improvements of Sleep mode: Wake up device is smoothly and fast.
3.Remove unlock interface: Many valued customers feedback on this Unlock action is redundant, so we decide to remove it by this version.
4.More user-friendly interface: Better user experience for operation.
5.Recovery to default setting.
6.Upgrade Weather Feature: Easier for operation and update.
7.More Applications will feature new apps designed specifically for WS:
a.Fring: Great communication app, it combines MSN, Shype, Twitter, Google Talk and so on; you can also use this application to make VoIP calls.
b.Aldiko: Amazing and professional plarform for e-book, it can browse and shop for reading books by free or paid anytime.
c.TaskManger: You can manage your resources of WS in more effective way.
d.APKinstaller: You can install the Android apk right away, no matter from Micro SD card or Internet.

We believe that Camangi WebStation will provide better using experience than before

Due to the complexity of upgrade the software of WebStation, we will handle the upgrade service only in our local service center in California, and return your own WebStation to you upon completion.

Please inform your Full Name, Serial Number, Phone Number and Address.

We would like to collect the device before April, 1 to our local service center.

We will provide more detail procedure after your application.

What Camangi isn’t sharing is whether this is an OS upgrade or just a firmware update. Either way I’ll be contacting them about sending off the Camangi for an update, and I will be taking careful note of the changes. I plan to take a screenshot of the firmware and OS versions before and after, and as soon as I get the device back I will have a full report on whether this fixes any of the bugs! Oddly, there’s no information on their website about it, but it looks like you need to email here if you want to send your device for the update.

Personally, if this fixes the “coma mode” it tends to slide into on occasion, along with the tendency to hang on wifi, I’ll be pleased. Do you have a Camangi Webstation you plan to send in for the update? Share any thoughts below!

Carly has been a gadget fiend for a long time, going back to her first PDA (a Palm M100). She quickly went from researching what PDA to buy to following tech news closely and keeping up with the latest and greatest stuff. She loves writing about ebooks because they combine her two favorite activities; reading anything and everything, and talking about fun new tech toys. What could be better?

Wait….complexity?? I have updated my G1 both OTA and by myself VERY easily. OTA updates were the easiest. This almost sounds like Camangi didn’t put a Flash chip in ot save costs. Not sure. This would be the first Android device that had this requirement.

Honestly, the camangi is bizarre in so many ways it doesn’t surprise me.

My first thought when I read that you have to send the unit in was that maybe it wasn’t just a firmware update … maybe a little hardware tweak, too. :-)

Maybe little extra memory? CPU bump??
