Earlier today I had the opportunity to meet with Jeanniey Mullen, the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Zinio. I’ve been reading Zinio’s digital magazines for years going all the way back to my first Tablet PC. Most recently I was wowed when they unveiled their iPhone app. Using “out of the box” thinking they were able to revision how they might approach using the iPhone as a digital delivery system for magazines which would maintain the graphic power of a magazine while offering a truly readable solution on such a small screen.
Jeanniey and I talked about Zinio’s current projects, their plan to bring a full-color, interactive app to the iPad at some point and the fact that we are, as she put it, at just the beginning of a period of rapid change that will finally bring ePublishing to the larger reading public. She also told me about the interactive version of National Geographic that is currently available as a free download. When we were through I checked it out. It… is… impressive… (And it is just a taste of things to come.)
I’ll have an in-depth recap of our conversation up in the next few days. In the meantime here is a quick look at the NatGeo interactive edition. Give it a look then download Zinio to your Mac or PC and grab it yourself.
