450,000 iPads sold to date. Saturday accounts for 300,000 of them. Best Buy is out of stock. iBooks has seen 600,000 downloads and 3.5 million iPad apps have been downloaded. There are currently 3500 iPad apps. There are a total of 185,000 apps in the App Store.
More stats… the iPhone has 64% of the mobile browser share. The next largest is Android at 19%. Developer preview for 4.0 is out today. It provides 1500 new APIs for accessing such things as the calendar, photo library, and images. The new OS will be out this summer. Among the big deals will be the ability for task apps to now access the calendar
And they claim to have figured out how to implement it without killing the battery life. (Not more horrid than it is now.)
To activate double-click the home button to raise an Expose-style window
The key background functions…
Background audio (think Slacker or Pandora) and the ability to control it from the lock screen
VOIP so now VOIP calling is truly useful on the iPhone, touch and iPad since it will keep running and the call can be accessed from the lockscreen- just slide the unlock and… take the call.
Location services like AT&T Navigator can now continue to run instead of shut down when a call comes in.
Local notifications that no longer rely on an outside server to push the notification
Task Completion- ie, fils can upload or download in the background
Fast App Switching
THANK YOU MR. JOBS!
And at this point I will add… Apple has already removed most of the reasons you would ever want to jailbreak.
This was one of the features I loved on the BlackBerry and missed when I went back to the iPhone full time. In addition they have added the ability to thread conversations.
But wait there is more-multiple exchange accounts, fast inbox switching and opening attachments in apps.
iBooks for iPhone!!!
You buy your books once and read them on any iDevice. Plus there will be a whispersync-like implementation to keep everything organized across devices.
And the big business news of the day for Apple… as expected they introduced iAds.
And they are pure Apple all the way. Slick, interactive and poised to make Apple a boatload of money.
There was some bad news in today’s announcement however. iPhone OS 4.0 is shipping this summer and it is only April.
