I love my Tuxdroid, the little robotic open source penguin that could read e-mail, weather and the time to you. I decided to revive my Tuxdroid as I had not played with him for a while. I hit up the website for Kysoh, the makers of the Tuxdroid and the site appeared up, but the software was not available for download at their site. I searched around the site and was unable to find the software, but did find this bug in their tracker. At the bottom of it is a note from one of the founders, Sebastian. Apparently, Kysoh S.A., the maker of the Tuxdroid is bankrupt.
There are lots of dejected fans on their Facebook page, and it looks like all tweets from their Twitter account stopped around June. This makes me sad, as it was one of the neatest things I have had the chance of reviewing as it was completely open. There is a group trying to put together a project to keep the software maintained, and I can only hope that someone will get the plans to build more Tuxdroids. For now, ThinkGeek still has some. If you buy one there, and are American or French, I have found this site for the Linux software that is active for now. The developer site also still has some resources, so please get them before the site dies completely.
Hopefully the community can keep Tuxdroid alive and can start making improvements to him.
