TPU and silicone style cases for the iPod Touch and the iPhone are a dime a dozen. If you’re going to impress me with a soft case you’ve got to stand out from the crowd. And that’s exactly what the Pixel Skin HD from Speck Products does. This TPU style case features 6 DPI of high-definition grip in four stylish colors.

The Pixel Skin HD is offered in Black, Yellow, Bright Red and Purple. The case doesn’t come with a screen shield. Speck isn’t offering their ShieldView for the 4th generation Touch just yet, so if you need a screen shield you’ll have to grab one elsewhere.

The case itself is soft and flexible. It’s not as stiff as some of the other TPU cases I’ve tried – which is a good thing in my opinion. It makes taking the case on and off easier.

Once you’ve got it on (by first inserting the Touch into the bottom portion of the case and then lifting the top over the corners), you’re left with a super sleek fitting design that offers a great amount of grip.

The bottom of the case features one large cutout for access to the speaker, 30-pin dock connector and the headset port.

Both the volume buttons and the sleep/awake buttons get covered up by the case, but their raised coverings offer a good amount of feedback when pressed.

The case features a nice amount of lay-on-the-table design, so you needn’t worry about placing it down screen side first.

The back of the case is where all the glory is though. The Pixel Skin HD features a glossy back that’s been covered with small pixel squares to create a very sharp looking design. There’s a pill shaped cutout on the back as well for access to the camera and the microphone.

Weighing in at less than 1 ounce the Pixel Skin HD is a case that offers your iPod Touch 4G a stylish look combined with added grip and even some drop and impact protection thrown in too. At just under $30 it isn’t the cheapest case around and it doesn’t include a screen shield but if you understand top-notch quality you know you get what you pay for. With anything from Speck you’re paying for both a quality product and the knowledge of a customer service team that’s there to back you up.

The Speck Pixel Skin HD for the iPod Touch 4G is available right now directly from the Speck Products website here.

MSRP: $29.95

What I Liked: Good fit, added grip, cool design.

What Needs Improvement: No included screen shield.
