Gear Diary iPad Accessory News: LapWorks Crystal iPad Folio photo

LapWorks has announced a new iPad case that is different from just about any case we’ve seen previously. The new case is a folio but it is made from a transparent hard-shell to give maximum protection to your iPad while letting you still use it in a variety of ways.

The LapWorks Crystal iPad Folio is

…literally two transparent hard-shell cases that have been hinged together to open and close like a book. The result is an innovative new type of iPad folio that protects the iPad and allows it to be viewed from every direction. But unique new features increase its usefulness and functionality making this product a stand-alone marvel of ingenuity.

The folio has two key features. As the company explains,

Feature #1 – The joining hinges rotate 360˚ on a stainless steel hinge pin allowing the top panel to rotate completely around 180˚ to become the support arm that positions the iPad’s screen for hands-free landscape or portrait viewing.

Feature #2 – The top panel can go from support arm mode to folding completely flat against the bottom panel allowing complete access to the touch screen for tabletop or one-handed operation.

In addition the case silicone bumpers on both crystal clear panels to protect them from scuffs and scratching and cut-outs along the edges of the Crystal iPad Folio for access to all controls and ports.

The Crystal iPad Folio looks like a neat option for people who carry their iPad everywhere. It will be formally launching in mid-January And will have an MSRP of $49.95 but we hope to have a review unit later this month. More details, and a discount on the current MSRP, can be found here on the LapWorks web site.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him.
