It looks like Amazon must be getting the same press releases we are about CES, since they’ve gone out of their way to announce a special version of the Kindle app for both Android and Windows tablets. From the press release it isn’t super clear what Amazon is doing differently, but my guess is eye candy and other tablet-y goodies. Hopefully they’ll extend to these apps their magazine and newspaper support as well!
Right now this really feels like a “get out in front of the news” release, rather than a substantive one. It’s unclear what the difference will be between “Kindle for Android” and “Kindle for Android tablet”, or “Kindle for PC” versus “Kindle for Tablet PC”. I do wonder if Amazon plans to make the Kindle app downloadable right from their site since not all of the available Android tablets run Marketplace.
And of course, my biggest question: Will Kindle for Android tablets run on Francis’s hacked NOOK?
