For the last year or so I have been trumpeting* Jason Parker’s ‘Pay What You Want’ business model for his music. Not only did I love his ‘No More, No Less’ CD, I loved how he allowed me to pay what I wanted – even if that meant paying a small amount before hearing the CD and coming back to pay more later!

Last fall I wrote about Jason Parker using the KickStarter system to help fund his Nick Drake tribute CD project, and fortunately he made his $5000 goal just before Christmas last year! I also noted how rapper/remixer Spekulation took an early cut of “Day Is Done” and mashed it up with a Jay-Z song!

Now the recording is available! Here is what Jason sent via email:

It gives me great pleasure to announce the release of the new Jason Parker Quartet CD, Five Leaves Left: A Tribute To Nick Drake. This has been a long time coming! I conceived of this album almost three years ago, we recorded it in December, mixed it throughout January and February, and put the final touches on it with mastering just this week! I’m thrilled with how the music turned out and hope you dig it as much as I do. This whole project was a true labor of love, and everyone involved put their heart and soul into it. I think you’ll be able to hear that when you listen to this beautiful music.

The official release date is actually tomorrow, but I’m making it available to you as a member of my “inner circle” a day early.

You have two purchase options:

Digital Download – If you are going to immediately put the tunes on your computer or mp3 player, this is the option for you. I’m offering downloads on a “pay-what-you-want” basis. This means you can pay $1, or $5, or $25, or nothing at all – whatever you feel the music is worth to you. I believe that you are the only one who can determine what it’s worth and want to leave that decision up to you.

Physical CD – If you’re old school like me and still want a CD to have and hold, this option is for you. I’m pricing the physical CDs at $12. If you chose this option you’ll receive an immediate download of all 10 tunes to listen to now. The CDs will be available in late-April/early-May and will come in a beautiful package, with original artwork by Michele Khazak and a beautiful booklet with complete linernotes about the music and band.

I got a message from Jason on Twitter last night and couldn’t believe that it was already time for the CD release, so I headed on over and bought the digital download copy right away. I have listened to it twice through already … and I already know it was a great purchase.

Head on over to Jason’s site and buy his new CD!
