Gear Diary Zinio Magazine App Now Available in the Android Market photo

It took far longer than we hoped or expected but, as of this morning, Zinio’s app is live in the Android Market. That’s right, if you have a device running Android 2.2 or above Android Honeycomb you can now get hundreds (thousands actually) of magazines right on your Android device. Zinio is one of my favorite apps on my iPad, and it was one of the things most lacking for me each time I tried to make the move to Android.

And there’s more good news. Thanks to Zinio’s commitment to being cross-platform, if you already have a Zinio account, then you can simply add your Android device to it and access all your magazines in seconds.

This is a big deal for owners of Android devices and yet another app that creates content parity between Apple’ and Google’s mobile operating systems.

You can grab it here.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him.

I can’t think of a single magazine that I want…..nice that it finally hits Android but…

May have to check it out.

Actually it looks like the app requires Android 3.0 and up. It won’t install on my HTC Flyer or Google Nexus One.

It does. Thanks. I went to it thinking it was honeycomb and the site seemed to indicate 2.2 Android. Fixed.

I waited a long time for this. When leaving Windows Mobile 6.1, Zinio was one of the things I really wanted to have on my next device. Eventually gave up 6 months ago and bought an iPhone. I’m grateful to Zinio for taking so long to get this done :)
