Archos pulled a bit of a stunner today with the announcement of new tablets that feature a huge amount of both raw speed and storage capacity. The speed comes from OMAP 4 processors with an ARM® Cortex™ dual-core A9 running at an impressive 1.5 GHz. The large storage comes from a Seagate Hard Disk Drive (HDD) with 250GB of capacity. According to the release:

The 8” ARCHOS 80 G9 and 10” ARCHOS 101 G9 are powered by AndroidTM 3.1 “Honeycomb,’’* the latest Android version. ARCHOS G9 tablets come with Google’s full suite of mobile applications and Android MarketTM, giving users access to over 200,000 applications such as games, books, social media and news. With the latest version of Honeycomb, G9 tablets also offer a full web experience complete with Adobe® Flash® support for on-the-go web browsing, communication and applications.

Another nice feature of the new G9 tablets is the way in which Archos is bringing 3G to them. The new ARCHOS 3G Stick is a “standard 3G stick for laptops which has been designed to be compatible with all ARCHOS G9 tablets”. It will work with all G9 tablets and plugs into a concealed USB port on the back of the device. While 3G dongles may first seem to be a bit too 2010, with so many connected devices coming to market the idea of having a way to get 3G without having to choose between WiFi and 3G models at purchase makes a good bit of sense.

The Archos tablets are also priced nicely with the 8’’ tablet starting at $279 and 10.1’’ tablet starting $349. You find more information on the Archos Website.

The Full Release can be found below.
