Gear Diary Waterfields New MacBook Air Smart Case Lets You Carry Your MBA with Style and Protection photo

Apple announced the new MacBook Airs this morning and Waterfield has a new design that will make protecting it on the go simple and stylish. The new Waterfield Smart Case for MacBook Air is a simple but effective sleeve for both the 11″ and 13″ MBA. It features the company’s excellent build-quality along with a style that belies its hardcore protective features. Among those features: a plastic insert that shields both sides and the bottom of the MBA and a snug fit that will keep the laptop from sliding out. In addition there is a mesh pocket that expands if you need to carry something but sits flat when empty. I’ve used the Smart Case for iPad and have been impressed by the simple but excellent design.

Smart Case Features:

Two sizes: Custom fitted to 11.6 or 13.1 inch MacBook Air

Light and protective

Water-resistant, nylon exterior

Padded interior

Ultrasuede®, scratch-free liner that helps remove fingerprints

Eco-friendly, distressed brown leather flanks sides

High-impact, rigid, plastic inserts for additional protection

Stretch back pocket to hold power adapter and cables

Six color choices: Black, Copper, Flame, Green, Pearl or Pine

Here’s a quick video look.

The MacBook Air Smart Case is available now from sfbags.com for the 11-inch at $79 and for the 13-inch at $89.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him.
