I recently noticed my wife enthralled with an iPhone game. That is kind of strange in itself. I didn’t ask what it was for a few evenings, but could tell it was some sort of puzzle game. When I finally inquired about what she was doing, she told me I had to download Drop7 Free. That was either a big mistake or a good thing depending on how you look at it. Now we both cannot put the game down. In fact, while trying to finish this paragraph, I have played the game twice! Let’s take a look at how the game works.

The gameboard is a simple grid filled with random numbers and discs. Tap the column you would like a disc to drop and the game is under way. When the number on a disc matches the number in that row or column, the disc disappears leaving points. The white dots under the grid are the number of drops left in the current level. When each level is complete, a row of gray discs forms at the bottom, pushing the remaining discs up a row. Once two adjacent discs are eliminated, gray discs reveal a random number.

It doesn’t take long to understand how the number works and how to eliminate discs, but it will take some planning and skill to keep the game going. A good play will set off a chain of disc breaks which, in turn, earn huge bonus points. Often, when the discs push up when changing levels, a chain will set off. Be careful when setting up chains since a level up can also push the top disc out of the top of the grid and end the game.

One of the best features of this game is that it will pick up exactly where you left off if you close it for any reason. I often keep games going for an entire day, playing whenever I have a spare minute or two. My goal is always to top my best score. My wife takes a different approach and tries to keep her average up. Either way you play, the game will be difficult to put down.

Three game modes are available including Normal, Hardcore and Sequence. Normal drops a mixture of colored and gray discs and is different every time. Hardcore makes levels come quickly and will not include any gray discs. Sequence mode is the same as normal mode, but the discs will be in the exact same order every time. If you want to get completely addicted, go check out Drop7 Free here in the app store and get to dropping numbers.

What I like: Awesome puzzle game with many game possibilities.

What could be improved: I would like to see gamecenter integration.
