Let’s just go ahead and get it out of the way: UGGs are ugly. They make your feet look huge, and they are sloppy. I’ve been told that there is nothing worse than seeing a woman wearing a pair of UGGs with a skirt or a pair of shorts; Kev grew up in the San Diego area, and he has issues with those combos, evidently. So there are plenty of reasons to dislike them, but I think the biggest reason boils down to the fact that they are ugly.

Now that I have gone ahead and said it for all of the UGG haters out there, I’ll also take this opportunity to confess that I have a pair of the UGG Classic Tall style in Sand, and I love them. Kev gave them to me two Christmases ago, and when the weather gets nippy I live in them. Kev grits his teeth and occasionally says something snarky, but I think he is secretly pleased that I’m actually wearing something he gave me (unlike the In-N-Out Burger t-shirt he bought me in Vegas that time).

So after two years of use, the outside of my boots still looks brand new, but the sheepskin on the inside has become smashed down and is no longer as comfy as once was. I’ve been tempted to get a second pair of UGGs just because I miss the fluffy shearling feeling, but two things have stopped me: the price for a new pair of UGGs ($150 and up!), and the fact that my UGGs look brand new! In fact, all of the shearling everywhere on my UGGs but in the soles is still fluffy; getting a new pair would guarantee that I would never wear my current pair again, and that seems like a colossal waste.

While I was idly window-shopping for new UGGs (mainly looking at all of the other styles available), UGG Replacement Sheepskin Insoles popped up, and I knew I had my solution! Supposedly these insoles only work with the women’s Bridalveil, Cold Weather Tech, and the Ultimate Collections, but I can tell you that’s not true. My replacement insoles came in today, and they slipped right into my Classics. Once again, I have fluffy sheepskin surrounding my feet, and I am no longer considering another pair.

I’m guessing that I am not the only one who was unaware that you could buy UGG Replacement Sheepskin Insoles, so I am passing along the tip. But here is another thing to consider. Because UGGs are so freaking expensive, there are a ton of other brands making similar boots; some of them actually use real sheepskin, but some do not. If you own a pair of non-UGGs, slipping in a pair of these relatively inexpensive UGG inserts would give you a bargain-priced UGG experience. And I think that is pretty cool.

So if you have an old pair of UGGs, and you just can’t justify upgrading them, for $19.95 a pair (and with FREE shipping & handling from Zappos) you might want to give this tip a try.

Oh, and they make them for men, too. =)

  1. Judie, check these out. They’re UGGs and they are gorgeous.  I found this pair at the local goodwill store in brand new condition 6 years ago for THREE dollars and have never owned a more comfortable pair of shoes — ever.  Besides the comfort, I couldn’t have designed a shoe that’s more my style.  I’ve worn these things seven to eight months of the year, year in and year out, and they still look almost as good as they day they became mine.  And now, I find out from you that there are inserts I can buy! How cool is that!? …I had no idea.  (Ya’ll made a regular out of me during your anniversary giveaway!)  So thank you for the tip; I’m definitely going to buy them.
