I had two different students come in to see me the other day. Both had brand new iPhones. Both iPhones were in the same style of case although in different colors. Yes, both students had opted to buy Speck’s CandyShell case to protect their new iPhone. The CandyShell line has been a huge hit for Speck and, as a result, the company is continuing to expand the line. They sent a few different samples over and we will be taking some video looks at them. First up, the Speck CandyShell View for iPhone 4/4S.

From Speck:

This clever twist on our award-winning CandyShell iPhone 4S case comes with a stand for hands-free movie-watching or FaceTime chats. Pop out the retractable kickstand and set your iPhone up however you like, in either portrait or landscape mode. When you’re done viewing, you can retract the kickstand back inside with an elegantly smooth, spring loaded mechanism.

The matte-finish hard outer shell gives impact-resistant protection, a little bit of grip, and slips easily in and out of your pockets. The soft inner layer provides shock-absorption and a protective cushion for your iPhone 4S or 4. CandyShell View also features press-thru button covers and a raised screen bezel.

Video Review:

In all, the CandyShell view is a great option for anyone who likes the look and feel of the company’s CandyShell line but also wants the convenience of a built-in stand. The stand doesn’t add much, if any, bulk and it lets you view the iPhone with the device held in a variety of different positions. I do have some questions about the longevity of the stand however. It is somewhat flimsy and I can imagine it breaking off after a bit of use. Still, it works fine now and, were this to happen, you still have a functional CandyShell case for under $40!

The Speck CandyShell View is available in a range of colors and can be purchased directly through Speck’s website.

MSRP: $39.95

What I Like: Good protection; a few colors from which to choose; Lay-on-the-table clearance; Built-in stand really works

What Needs Improvement: I question how the stand will hold up over time
