Earlier this week, Ford Motor Company began mailing out upgrade kits for its MyFord Touch/MyLincoln Touch and SYNC vehicle infotainment systems, allowing users the ability to get the latest version of this technology saving them a trip to their local service center.
The upgrade is in response to criticism from both the press and owners alike complaining of difficulty using the technology and certain hiccups or quirks in the system. The upgraded system is also being rolled out in 2013 models as they become available, including Taurus, Flex and Mustang models.
And in case you were not already spending too much for a heavy-duty pickup, Ford has upped the ante as they announce the Platinum package to be offered on its largest consumer pickups for 2013.
Citing the popularity of the range-topping package introduced in 2009 on F-150 models, Ford will begin offering the luxury trim level to its Super Duty F-250, F-350, and F-450 Crew Cab trucks.
At that level, just about every amenity known to be offered on a pickup is thrown in including the aforementioned newest version of MyFord Touch and SYNC, rear view camera (which will be mandatory soon on all vehicles), remote start, and power mirrors and pedals, all in a work-ready package that Ford says will accommodate users wearing work gloves.
“The F-Series Super Duty Platinum is the latest expression of Built Ford Tough truck luxury,” said Brian Rathsburg, F-Series Super Duty Marketing manager. “It has a distinct appearance and a long list of features to deliver a superior experience. Along with that, it has all of the capability F-Series trucks are famous for.”
The Platinum series on the big trucks will also enhance exterior appearances with the addition of a unique front grille area as well as chrome appointments all around the vehicle including new 20-inch wheels.
At the heart of the new MyFord Touch and SYNC driver infotainment system is a new 8-inch touch screen display and Ford promises the recent upgrade to this system offers easier use of telephone, climate, audio, and navigation functions along with enhanced voice control capability.
No word on pricing just yet but the Platinum Edition will be introduced on 2013 model Super Duty trucks as they arrive later this year.
