We recently brought word that Case-Mate was releasing a new line of cases for the iPhone 4S that are made completely from recycled plastic. What is key here is the fact that they don’t just use SOME recycled plastic but the cases are made from 100% recycled materials. That’s a good thing. Let’s take a look at the review sample they sent over.

From Case-Mate:

One bottle, one case. Do your part with the eco-friendly rPET Barely There case. Molded from 100% recycled material, the translucent, glossy finish showcases more of your iPhone. Its ultra-lightweight, minimalist design delivers a stylish profile, while the impact resistant hard shell protects against impacts and falls.

If you like a minimalist case you are going to like this design. Case-Mate has produced a case that is just about as low profile as possible. It is so low profile that it does not offer any “lay on the table” protection. Still, it does protect that sides and back of the iPhone, as well as the ever-so vulnerable corners.

The buttons and other controls are fully accessible.

This shot from the top also shows how accessible the access areas are and how protected the corners are.

And, as you can see, the back is well protected and the camera is nicely accessible and open.

Light, minimalist and as protective as you need… so long as you don’t need a ton of protection.

I do, however, expect that this case will show scuffs and scratches as it is used. That makes sense and is the reason you use a case in the first place right? It certainly is better that the case take the hit than your iPhone. Still, if you love a case that looks fresh and new after months of use this may not be the best choice. Time will tell…

  1. There are other alternative material cases now available, too – http://www.treehugger.com/gadgets/ces-2012-iphone-cases-made-of-worlds-first-certified-compostable-elastomer.html

With all the plastic manufactured by the case industry, it is nice to see alternatives being offered.
