I do agree that iOS has become a wonderful mobile gaming platform, but not in the way I would have first imagined. For me it is not about high quality graphics and blockbuster titles. Simplicity and the ability for quick play is far more important. My phone is always with me and there are many times during the day I am waiting or taking a break. These times are usually only a few minutes long and are fun to fill with a quick game. Puzzle games are perfect for these situations because the are fun, fresh and often quit addictive. I just stumbled on Flow Free and decided it earned this week’s Blue Plate award. Let’s take a look.

Connect matching colors with pipe to create a flow. Pair all colors, and cover the entire board to solve each puzzle. But watch out, pipes will break if they cross or overlap!

Free play through hundreds of levels, or race against the clock in Time Trial mode. Gameplay ranges from simple and relaxed, to challenging and frenetic, and everywhere in between. How you play is up to you. So, give Flow Free a try, and experience “mind like water”!

The idea of Flow Free is actually quit simple. A grid of various sizes contain colored dots. Tap and hold on a dot and drag to a matching color. Each square will be filled with that colored pipe and create a flow between the two points. Colored pipes cannot cross each other and the entire screen must be filled. There are some levels that the dots are easily connected, but their paths must be planned to also fill the screen without crossing. As the game progresses and the grids get larger, each level will require more thought.

While Flow Free does not contain high def, fancy graphics and explosions, it is a lot of fun. I love being able to open the game asks play a level or two when I have a spare moment, then going about my business. All of the puzzles are not difficult, but they do require enough planning and logic to be enjoyable. Go get Flow Free here in the app store for free and get addicted.

What I like: Simple, fun and addictive puzzle game play.

What can be improved: It would be fun to also take time as a consideration for records.
