Android devices are usually pretty slow to adopt cases and accessories compared to the mind numbing amount available for Apple devices. If you picked up a shiny new Nexus 7 tablet, and are on the hunt for quality case without breaking the bank, then the Blurex Folio Slim might be the answer.

There was nothing available for immediate purchase when the tablet came out, so I picked up a standard pleather folio case off of Amazon for a about $6 to my door. While this case has served me well the poor fit has been pretty annoying, but good enough until something nice came to the market. Since the release, there have been some pretty sweet cases available, but like most accessories they will cost you a pretty penny. There have recently been leaks of the official Asus cases, dock, and  few other things that have yet to hit the shelves, but if you need a super slim, well-built, and quality case on the cheap, then Blurex should fit the bill quite nicely.

Construction

The looks and feels like real leather, but so do most leather seats in cars that later turn out to be vinyl. Either way, I don’t really care if it’s real or not since it feels great and has a nice grain to it. All the black leather parts are soft and semi padded, with the inside being a super thin microfiber material that will not scratch any part of your device. It looks to be a quality stitch job where all seams are sewn together. There is an elastic band as well as a press fit arm on the side to keep the case closed while not in use.

The elastic banded hand strap is thin and non obtrusive, even though I probably won’t be needing it since the tablet is extremely lightweight to begin with. Overall this case is very well-built, feels pretty durable and solid, and has the fit and finish equal to cases that are way more expensive.

Product Fit

One of my favorite parts about this case is that it does not cover any part of the screen. Most folio cases are designed so that you slide the tablet in from the side and the bezel is covered by material that holds it in place. Often there is some movement of the device and you have to shift it around a bit for the camera and ports to line up. With the placement of the side buttons on the Nexus 7, my old case made it difficult to hit the volume and power buttons. This case has no obstructions at all, and I can easily access all ports and buttons without any problems.

The tablet snaps in to place and is held by rigid leather wrapped arms. It’s a nice and snug fit that securely holds the device in place but also makes it very quick and easy to take out. I don’t have any fear that the tablet could slip out and have an accident.

Features

The Blurex is a sleek and simple case, which is exactly how I wanted it. My two biggest requirements were met because the screen is not covered in any way, and it has a built-in stand with a few angles of viewing. I don’t really care for spinning cases that stand the device up in portrait mode, so the two levels of adjustment in landscape viewing are perfect for me.

The case also is magnetic wake, so if your tablet is powered on when you open the case it wakes up for you. This is not a big deal to me, but I do appreciate that feature now that I have it. There  is a small elastic band that is probably to hold a stylus or pen, and another band that holds the front cover together. This really isn’t needed since there is a press fit snap on the side that keeps the cover closed, but can also be used to hold cover in place when folded over the back and held flat.

Summary

I have to give this case a rating of 9/10 overall. It’s extremely slim, very lightweight, and the quality to price ratio is mind-blowing. There are plenty of junk cases on Amazon and Ebay, but this one certainly is not one of them. Right now Amazon Prime members can pick this case up for $12.60 and two-day shipping. At the time of this writing, there is also a coupon that may or may not be working that will instantly knock $5 off the price during checkout. I had this case delivered to my door next day for $11.59. If you can wait a few days for standard delivery and the coupon still works, you can pick this thing up for $7.60. For less than $10, what do you have to lose?

MSRP: $12.60 or $7.60 with coupon IGKGG5ZA

What I Like: Price is right; Excellent build quality; Super slim and lightweight; Does not cover the screen; All ports and buttons are unobstructed

What Needs Improvement: Arms holding tablet in place could be slightly wider for more protection (all 4 corners are still protected)
