Gear Diary Experience the Newport Jazz Festival Live Via Streaming Video! photo

Two years ago it was a big deal when the revered Newport Jazz Festival gave listeners worldwide a chance to feel a part of things by streaming some of the audio from the festival. This weekend they are taking it a step further, with a full 16 hours of live streaming video from the festival!

This weekend, NPR Music and our partners WBGO and WGBH are presenting 16 hours of live video webcasting from the 2012 Newport Jazz Festival. For your convenience, here’s a breakdown of what you’ll see online and hear on WBGO. Everything is subject to change, as with all broadcasting; for the latest, check out npr.org/newportjazz, where you’ll find the streaming video. And, if you happen to be going to the festival, we’ve even written up all the other bands also appearing on day one.

Here are some of the features of the first day:

11:00 Pedrito Martinez Group
11:50 John Ellis & Double-Wide
12:40 Jack DeJohnette Group
1:40 Dafnis Prieto Sextet
2:25 Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society
3:25 The Bad Plus + Bill Frisell
4:25 3 Clarinets: That would be Ken Peplowski, Evan Christopher, and Anat Cohen.
5:05 Jack DeJohnette All-Stars
6:10 Bill Frisell plays John Lennon

This looks like an absolutely fantastic weekend, and I know I will try to tune in over the various concerts – my only regret is that I can’t be there. I have gone several times in the past, and it is an amazing and gorgeous venue.

Head to NPR this weekend, August 4th and 5th and watch the show live!

I have loved technology for as long as I can remember - and have been a computer gamer since the PDP-10! Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!
