In the mid-80, out of a sea of hair-metal and synth-pop came a bust of gritty blues-rock. The first big star was Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, and soon to follow was Robert Cray. Born out of a similar tradition, Cray’s approach took a much more modern pop orientation compared to Vaughan playing blues standards.
Through the mid- and late 80′s his releases had tremendous crossover appeal, with ‘Smoking Gun’ landing at #2 on the rock and #22 on the pop charts. And since the launch of the Blues charts in the mid-90s his releases have constantly hit the top 10, as he has held his audience with a continuous commitment to providing quality releases and a dedication to songwriting and guitar playing skills.
His newest album ‘Nothin But Love’ will be released on August 28th, and to get everyone ready he is streaming ‘Won’t Be Coming Home’ for free!
