The tremors have already shaken us – Judie quit diet coke cold turkey (and yesterday — three days in — the massive headaches started). Last week the guy at my office who picks up the recycling noted that my intake of Diet Mountain Dew was way down (to at MOST one per day), and I haven’t had any coffee at work in more than four months (and I stick to one cup in the morning at home). In other words, we here at Gear Diary are much less caffeinated than we were  earlier this year.

But that same trend is certainly not true for most people, as soda and energy drink and energy shot consumption is WAY up. While a few years ago Mountain Dew ruled the soda roost, and everyone knew coffee had much more caffeine … now Pepsi Max and Sun Drop eclipse the Dew, and with the emergence of energy drinks we have 5 oz cans of Monster with more caffeine than 3 12oz cans of Mountain Dew!

While we all joke about caffeine, the Mayo clinic has this to say:

As with everything, it’s important to consume caffeine in moderation. According to the Mayo Clinic, too much caffeine — more than 500 mg to 600 mg a day — may cause insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, irritability, stomach upset, fast heartbeat and/or muscle tremors. Caffeine can also interact with certain medications, such as ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, theophylline and echinacea.

Here is the listing for soda.

Again that is just the listing for soda. Hit up HellaWella for infographics looking at energy drinks, coffee, tea and more!
