Ever have just “one of those weeks”? I have been having one. Between several work commitments, service appointments at my home, and some family and friend obligations, it has been a week of juggling appointments and rearranging schedules. Unfortunately, this week also highlighted my biggest complaint about iOS: iCal. I can’t stand that my only options are list, day and month. The lack of integration with tasks is also a pain. A busy schedule only highlighted these limitations, and made me realize it was time to bite the bullet and find a better option.

Luckily for me, the good folks at Pocket Informant have stepped forwards to help. I will be testing Pocket Informant Pro, a full featured calendar/tasks/contacts/notes management app, as well as Pocket Informant Go!, a lighter version that just does tasks and calendars. As much as I try to resist over-organizing myself, I recognize that without a solid system I forget appointments and lose track of important tasks. I used Pocket Informant in my Windows Mobile days and liked it a great deal. This week I will see if the iOS version helps me out of my stressed, disorganized whirlwind. Or at least, I’ll see if it helps me spin myself in the right direction!

But, I am not just sharing this to brag about my newfound desire to be more organized. WebIS, the folks behind Pocket Informant, want our readers to give PI a shot as well! We have four copies of PI Pro ($12.99) and PI Go! ($1.99) to give away. And we are giving them away… starting now! All you need to do is leave a comment telling us why you need a better task and calendar system.

Work/life balance a bit out of whack? Trying to manage kids, sports, work, and household and need a hand? Or maybe you just like having tasks and calendar in one place. Whatever the reason, let us know what it is, and which version of PI you want to win. Winners will be picked at random on Wednesday, September 19th. (And make sure to subscribe to the newsletter because there’s a very good possibility that someone may win a copy when this week’s edition comes out!!)

And stay tuned for my full reviews of Pocket Informant Pro and Go!

Hi Carly! Very good! I have it on my Blackberry and have been contemplating it for my iPad and iPhone as I’m sort of migrating.. Are you going to review the differences between the iPad and the iPhone versions? I’m not sure yet which to put it on..
    Thanks, Drew

  2. I had PI on my WM6.x phone and it was great. I liked all the different settings to get things looking the way I wanted; even though there are a lot of settings. Once you get it set up the way you want, it is great.
I am on Android now, so I’m not sure if the contest includes Android, so if anyone with iOS wonders, Pocket Informant is good, and is worth it.

Pocket Informant was installed on ALL my WM mobiles years ago, and I loved the apps! I’m currently trying to manage an extremely busy schedule between 16 hours of college courses, a part time job, five daughters, college honor society president duties, and a few other odds and ends.

I could really use a good way to keep all that together.

    Great article!

  4. It is great that you are having this contest today. I was just thinking that I need to find a better task list. I have an app, but it is basically just a list with no due dates or calendar tie ins. Even though the simplicity is nice – with no reminders, well, I tend to forget to check the app. This would be a huge help with work and personal tasks.

Plus, on the calendar – I could color code my appointments, and that would be big help. The iPhone’s normal calendar is just blah.

    • Never used it, just got an iPhone and am anxious to try new and really good apps. I’ve used a Franklin Planner for years but it’s paper and you have to lug it with you. So why not have it all on one device and make it simple?

So long and thanks for all the fish.

  5. I would love to win the PI Pro. This would be great trying to organize all the kids and my husbands schedules. Right no I am using google and it just isnt cutting it

  6. It sounds like PI Pro would help me keep track of my work schedule, contacts, Boy Scout events with my son, Church events, and to-dos. Right now I juggle Agenda, Paperless, and Todo. I know that there are some redundancies with what I have. It would be great to have an app that contained my tasks, allowed me to select which to show on my calendar, along with the appointments. I really like to option of multiple views other than as you mentioned, week, month, and year. Good luck to all and I am looking forward to your review.

  7. I would like to win the PI Pro – it looks like amazing, convenient and productive Task Management. Would love to try it

  8. I’d love to win PI Pro, because it integrates everything, which the standard iOS apps certainly don’t.

  9. Remember the old days I had PI installed on my HP PDA for many years and consequently on WM 6. These days, I have never been satisfied with the build in calendar of iOS after I migrate it to iphone. Would love to have it installed on my 4S. Miss PI a lot.

  10. I have not found a good way to keep track of everything yet. I have missed appointments and always seem to be running late. PI would help me for sure!
