Major features: It has been a year and a half since I reviewed Biostatistics, and since then the $24.99 app is gone from the App Store, and most of what exists are either desktop tie ins (JMP Graph Builder) or educational tools. Yet my need for quick analyses on the go has not abated. Stats Pad features more than two dozen commonly used statistical tests across univariate, multivariate, nonparametric, and other areas.

Stats Pad also ‘plays nice’ with iOS and other apps. You can simply open text and Excel files, import and export to Numbers and other apps, undo and redo edits, keep all analyses in the same file, and loads of other convenient features. And unlike Biostatistics, your output is in table form, so you can copy & paste into Numbers of one of the various Office apps. About the only thing missing is graphing, but for myself I prefer the flexibility of JMP Graph Builder over a rudimentary Excel-like implementation – but it would still be a welcome addition.

Another really cool thing is that the developer has a great site that tracks updates and features – and has excellent tutorials.

Ease of use/Overall performance: Stats Pad is not a teaching tool, and assumes you know what tests you are running and how to ensure that they are appropriate. If you know this, and are aware of getting files in and out of an iPad app, it is smooth sailing!

Would use again/recommend?: Definitely! I already have recruited a couple of Stats Pad users at work!

Suggested changes/wish list for updates: Graphics, even rudimentary, will help.

Price: $5.99
