Gear Diary Astraware Games Now Available for the Nook HD and HD+ photo

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely loved Michael’s video comparison of the various 7″ tablets that he posted the other day.  I am planning to wait until the iPad mini is a year old before I make the plunge into the 7″ market (or get a new full-sized iPad; mine is the iPad 1, and it’s getting a little long in the tooth), so I watched it very carefully.  But one thing I wondered as I watched it was:  I wonder how the new Nooks would compare?  Yes, the software available for Nooks is nothing like the iPad’s, or even the Kindle Fire’s, but for whatever reason, I found the device very compelling.  (As Michael said, a lot of it is subjective “feel”, and I like the feel of the Nooks.)  But Barnes and Noble are doing their very best to compete in the market, and so I’m glad to give you all this news about Astraware porting some of their games to the new Nook HD and HD+:

Astraware® is excited to announce a trial of their game Astraware Crosswords has been selected to be bundled with Barnes & Noble’s NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ tablets. The studio also announced today the availability of five other games for these devices – Astraware Word Games, Astraware Kriss Kross Deluxe, Astraware CodeWords Deluxe, Astraware Mahjong and Astraware Solitaire.

About the games
Astraware Crosswords Deluxe lets you take your favorite pastime wherever you go and compete online by downloading and playing the Daily and Weekender puzzles. NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ owners will be able to try the game using the version preloaded on their device.

Astraware Word Games is the best brain-teasing pack of 5 different word games in 3 different difficulty levels.
Astraware Mahjong takes the ancient tile-matching game and gives it a modern twist with 3D graphics, more than 30 puzzle layouts, multiple difficulty levels and a daily puzzle challenge.
Astraware Kriss Kross Deluxe brings this popular word and logic puzzle, also known as Fitwords, to NOOK in an easy to use interface and with over 100 built-in puzzles in a range of difficulty levels and grid sizes.
Astraware CodeWords Deluxe tests your ability to solve the code by figuring out which number represents each of the letters to form words in a crossword style grid.
Astraware Solitaire includes 12 of the most popular single-player card games, each with customizable rules, and a choice of card backs and backgrounds.
Astraware Mahjong takes the ancient tile-matching game and gives it a modern twist with 3D graphics, more than 30 puzzle layouts, multiple difficulty levels and a daily puzzle challenge.

Pricing and Availability
The games are available today on the NOOK Store. Astraware Word Games and Astraware Solitaire are priced at $4.99 each. Other games are $2.99 each. All six games will also be available for customers in the United Kingdom in mid-November. For more information and screenshots, visit http://www.astraware.com/nook.
