Deadly Dungeons for Android Review

Major features: I love dungeon crawl games, or rogue-likes. The basics here are games that provide you more of a ‘scenario’ than a story and are focused on the experience of focused combat in a dungeon. Deadly Dungeons is played in first-person perspective, so you see what is happening around the dungeon as you explore. It is a 2.5D experience, so while you can see from the floor to the ceiling, all space in front of you is treated the same.

Both player and monsters move on a grid system, with monsters moving in turn-based mode while players can move freely. This gives you the advantage, and you will need it often! Monsters

As you explore you will gain items, gold and experience. The items you can use or sell to vendors you meet; gold you use to buy new items from the same vendors; and experience gains you levels … which help you improve skills. For example, I played as a Mage, so my attribute distribution was focused on Magic and Health over Dexterity and Strength. At first I had to use weapons to kill enemies, which took its toll and had me running for cover … or dying.

But as I gained a level I could take on the Flame Arrow skill and destroy enemies from a distance. Then I took on Mana Regen to help regain my magic skills quicker, and Ice skills for different enemy types, and so on. Whereas I started out with a fairly generic character I ended up with a powerful mage.

And the game doesn’t end when it ‘ends’ – you can restart the dungeon again, but now you are at a much higher level and so are your enemies, equipped with new attacks and resistances to keep you challenged. Also, there are four difficulty levels, from a ‘casual’ where you don’t die to a ‘nightmare’ where everything is tough and death is permanent.

Ease of use/Overall performance: If you at all familiar with the classic RPG games such as ‘Eye of the Beholder’, you will feel comfortable here.

Would use again/recommend?: Absolutely! I started playing this a couple of months ago and have picked it up at least once a week to make more and more progress until finally completing the dungeon a second time this week. Loads of fun!

Suggested changes/wish list for updates: Nothing.
