Gear Diary Compare Moving Companies with Web Site Unpakt photo

Moving is, to put it mildly, a pain in the butt.  Even when I was a student at UC Santa Cruz, by the time I was a senior I had to make six trips to move all my stuff in my car.  And it only got worse from there.  But what do you do?  You just call random moving company (“Two Guys and a Truck”; “Starving Students”; “Biffs Moving and Freight”), and hope you don’t get ripped off?  Well, this is the Internet era, baby!  And the site Unpakt is here to help:

Unpakt is an innovative new way for consumers and businesses to make educated and informed decisions about their move, and receive exact quotes rather than estimates. Unpakt also guarantees the quality of the move with a screening process that only admits reputable moving companies, and highlights customer reviews posted on the website for the public to see.  In essence, Unpakt is the most comprehensive and honest referral platform for moving companies.

Created by entrepreneur Sharone Ben-Harosh, the founder and CEO of FlatRate Moving, the Unpakt business model also offers a means of creating business for Unpakt’s moving company partners, ultimately allowing each of these companies an opportunity to grow their business.

How it works: Customers create an inventory of all furniture and boxes, as well as moving date and location information.  Once the information is submitted, Unpakt provides a comparison of guaranteed prices from Unpakt’s pre-screened movers.  From there, the customer can book the move on-the-spot or save the search and revisit the booking process at a later date.

Launched in major cities across the country, the business model is working, and moving companies are signing up to become partners of Unpakt.  Within the next 18 months, Unpakt plans to have 5,000 movers in 125 U.S. cities and approximately 1,000 international markets in 18 months.

Unpakt is THE next big thing in the moving industry! Consumers would be happy to know that there is a service that will take the stress out of moving. If there is any interest to do blog post about Unpakt, please let me know

Doug is a nerd from way back, falling for a Commodore PET at the age of 15, and never looking back. Riding the nerd wave, he got a Computer Science degree and entered the tech industry at a young age, deciding after a year and a half of front-line phone technical support that he should try something, *anything* else. He settled on technical writing, and has been cranking out documentation for companies like Unisys, SGI, Cisco, Juniper, and many others ever since. He is nothing short of ecstatic to be working for H-P from his home base in Austin.
