When I was a kid, one of the series of books that I absolutely loved were the “Danny Dunn” books. Danny was a high school kid who was good friends with Prof. Bullfinch, a local professor and inventor. And of course what always happened was that the Professor would invent something, Danny would fiddle with it, and hilarity would ensue. And one of my favorite stories was “Danny Dunn and the Automatic House”. And of course given Danny’s predilection for impulsivity, curiosity, and doing things that he knows he probably shouldn’t, he and his good buddy Joe ended up locked in the “automatic house”, and hilarity did, indeed ensue.
Now that we’re living in the computer age, some folks are of course actually trying to develop such a thing: At CES ADT demonstrated the latest features of its innovative home automation system ADT PulseSM . The system allows users to remotely arm and disarm their security systems, control thermostats, turn on and off small appliances and lights, access secure real-time video, and lock and unlock doors.
Will this be a start down the path to realize Prof. Bullfinch’s dream of the automatic house? Who knows! But if you’re interested in this particular stab it, for more information, visit www.adtpulse.com. And of course if you do, be sure to let us know what you think below!
