Gear Diary GreatCall Introduces New mHealth Apps Urgent Care & Brain Games photo

I’m reaching the age where I worry about my parents and their health.  (Hell, I’ve reached the age where I worry about my health!)  Plenty of people joke about those old TV ads where a senior person is laying on the ground yelling, “Help!  I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!”  But the fact is, it’s a genuine problem.  (Keith Olbermann’s dad lay on the ground for hours until someone found him, for example.)  And there are lots of other issues that you face as you grow older.  And while no, decent apps can’t cure anything, maybe they can help out.  Like these here ones from GreatCall:

GreatCall’s New Urgent Care App Delivers Convenient Access to Live Doctors and Nurses Whenever You Need It.

GreatCall® and Posit Science® Partner to Offer Mobile Brain Exercises on the Jitterbug Cell Phone.

The idea behind GreatCall is to avoid exactly the problem Mr. Olbermann faced; having some kind of age-related problem, and not being able to get help for some reason.  I mean, who wants that?  I’m sure you don’t want your parents or grandparents to have to deal with that, right?  So maybe the GreatCall stuff is something you or someone in your family might find helpful?  Surf on over and check them out.  And if you do, be sure to let us know what you think below!

Doug is a nerd from way back, falling for a Commodore PET at the age of 15, and never looking back. Riding the nerd wave, he got a Computer Science degree and entered the tech industry at a young age, deciding after a year and a half of front-line phone technical support that he should try something, *anything* else. He settled on technical writing, and has been cranking out documentation for companies like Unisys, SGI, Cisco, Juniper, and many others ever since. He is nothing short of ecstatic to be working for H-P from his home base in Austin.
