As a guy (and about the farthest thing from a fashion-conscious Metrosexual that you can imagine–I mean, Sami helps me match my pants to my shirts), I have always viewed watches as a functional item. Yeah, I wanted it to have cool gizmos on it–preferably be some kind of fancy chronograph–but that was my technonerd side talking, not my fashion side. (I have a Tag Heuer, but it was a bonus from SGI, rather than a personal purchase. Nice bonus, huh? It was the 90s!) So I’ve never really understood the concept of wearing a particular type of watch as a fashion statement rather than as something to use to, oh, I dunno, tell you what time it is. But there it is: Watches are fashion.
