Gear Diary Tozai Announces Lode Runner Classic for iOS and Android photo

Maybe it’s just a coincidence but . . . the other day I followed a link to an article on The Verge about old video game (and pinball) arcades and how they’ve basically died off.  But then today I got this announcement from Tozai about iOS and Android versions of Load Runner.  Is it the front of a wave of nostalgia-driven games?  Are we soon going to be seeing, I dunno, Donkey Kong Classic on your iPad?  Who knows?  But it’s interesting to think about, right?

I like trying out old arcade-style games, or classic side-scrollers like Sonic or Earthworm Jim, on the iPhone or Android phones or whatever, and seeing how they compare.  Now I grant you, those “virtual control” . . . well, those no other way to put it:  They stink.  But it’s still fun to play those old games, and there’s just no question that the screen resolution on an iPhone kicks the butt of your old GameBoy or Sega handheld or whatever.  I mean, it’s not even really close, is it?

So if you’re been jonesing for some of that old-time gaming religion, maybe this is what you’ve been waiting for!   Available at the iTunes app store and Google Play for an MSRP of $2.99.  And if you get it, be sure to share your nostalgia-fueled experiences below!

Doug is a nerd from way back, falling for a Commodore PET at the age of 15, and never looking back. Riding the nerd wave, he got a Computer Science degree and entered the tech industry at a young age, deciding after a year and a half of front-line phone technical support that he should try something, *anything* else. He settled on technical writing, and has been cranking out documentation for companies like Unisys, SGI, Cisco, Juniper, and many others ever since. He is nothing short of ecstatic to be working for H-P from his home base in Austin.
