Gear Diary AVID Teams with Katy Perry & Adeles Producer for Online Talent Competition photo

If you are like me, you love the IDEA of a musical talent competition for a recording contract that slowly funnels from thousands to just a few … but the execution always gets muddled down as the music becomes secondary to what works on TV. But what if there was an online contest that will result in three lucky winners having their music heard, mixed and mastered by some of the industry’s top folks? That is exactly what Avid is announcing in conjunction with Abbey Road Studios.

Avid is the maker of Pro Tools, which is THE system of choice in the music industry for production and recording at the professional level. Together with Legendary Abbey Road Studios, they have launched the ‘Avid Song Contest’. This gives musicians, artists and producers the chance to get their work in front of a panel of top industry figures – and also in front of a worldwide audience of fans!

There are four winners – two from the professional judges and one from the fans. All three chosen by the judges will win the ultimate package – they get a track of their choice mixed and mastered by Abbey Road Studios, and also get an Avid Pro Tools|HD Native system. The fan choice will get an Avid Mbox® audio interface with Pro Tools 10 software.

You upload your song to “Submit a Track” from today until March 13, 2013, with the winners of the Judges choice, Fans choice and Judges choice runner-up being announced on April 10, 2013. Voting for the Fans choice award runs from March 14 – March 21, 2013.

You can get more details here, or head straight to the ‘Submit a Track’ site to get your music entered!

I have loved technology for as long as I can remember - and have been a computer gamer since the PDP-10! Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!
