I know a lot of people who totally connect with their household pets.  They can tell me what (they believe) it’s thinking, it’s intentions are, and how it’s feeling today.  Those people will do almost anything for their pets; whether it’s throwing a birthday party, baking homemade treats, or building enormous pet palaces for them to sleep in.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m a dog lover who has had a dog almost all of his life and I absolutely love my dog, but I’m not going to take her for an all-inclusive doggy spa day with shiatsu massage and seaweed wrap.

However, if you’re one of those who wants to get even closer to their pets than you already are, here’s a way you might give yourselves something in common.  Put on some cat ears and a tail!  Introducing: Shippo, the brain-controlled cat tail.  Neurowear, the company who has also brought us Necomimi, the brain-controlled cat ears, has developed a follow-up product to the original cat-lover’s gadget.  People loved the Necomimi Brainwave Cat Ears so much that they demanded a brainwave fueled tail because let’s face it. If you’re wearing brain-controlled cat ears, you’ll look just plain silly if you don’t have the tail to go along with it!

Both of these devices take cues from your brain’s alpha and beta waves to control the mechanics.  For instance, if you’re concentrating, the ears will rise, if you’re relaxed, the ears will fall, etc.  This is also a good way to discern whether your new girlfriend really is “fine” like she said she is, even though you know you must have done something wrong.

The Necomimi Brainwave Cat Ears can be purchased from ThinkGeek for $99.99 for the headset and $19.99 for each additional set of ears you’d like.

Unfortunately for those drooling over the possibility of turning themselves into a full-fledged feline, Neurowear has no plans to commercially release the Shippo cat tail.  A similar product by the company who developed Shippo along with Neuroware attempted a Kickstarter campaign which was unsuccessful.

Ever since I picked up an NES controller, I've been hooked on the latest and greatest gadgets, gizmos, and toys. Whether it's gaming, mobile phones, and accessories, or PCs and Apple products, I'm interested. I use many Apple products in my daily life, such as the iPhone, iPad, and my MacBook Pro. I've also built a few PCs in my day, so I'd like to say that I'm a pretty well-rounded techie.

  1. I think I’m actually alarmed that I think these are funny enough to want some to play with my cats! 😉
